Privacy Policy
Effective October 1, 2026
The short version: Goblin keeps what it learns about your Mac on your Mac.
There's no account, no analytics, no tracking and no ads. We never receive your files, your file names or anything Goblin measures.
This policy covers the Goblin app for macOS and this website, macgoblin.com. Goblin is made by Higher Bar, LLC ("Higher Bar Apps", "we", "us").
What stays on your Mac
Everything Goblin shows you is measured on your Mac and stored only there: CPU, memory, disk, network, battery and temperature readings and their history; storage scans and the files you choose to remove; network connections and the rules you set; and your preferences. Removing Goblin and its preferences removes this data. We have no copy.
When Goblin goes online
Goblin connects to the internet only for these reasons:
| Why | Where to | What's sent |
|---|---|---|
| Checking for updates | Our update server (macgoblin.com) | An ordinary web request for the latest version. Like any website, our server sees your IP address and the app version in the request. We don't link it to you. |
| Network quality, while you're viewing it | Your router and 1.1.1.1 | Small "ping" packets with no personal data, to time your connection. |
| Cloud storage you choose to connect | Google Drive, Dropbox, Box or Microsoft OneDrive | Directly between your Mac and that service. See below. |
Cloud storage accounts
Goblin can map how space is used in a Google Drive, Dropbox, Box or Microsoft OneDrive account, if you connect one. It's optional and off until you click Connect.
What Goblin accesses
- Your account's name, email address and storage quota, to label the account and show how full it is.
- The names, sizes, folders, dates and links of your files and folders, to draw the storage map. Goblin doesn't download or open the contents of your files.
- Permission to move items to that service's trash, used only when you select items and confirm their removal. Items go to the service's own trash, where you can restore them.
Where it goes
- Sign-in happens on the service's own website. Goblin never sees your password.
- The service gives Goblin an access token, which is stored in your Mac's Keychain. Goblin uses it only to talk to that service directly from your Mac.
- File listings are kept in memory on your Mac to draw the map. They are never sent to us or anyone else, and they aren't used for advertising, sold, or used to train AI models.
- Disconnect in Goblin deletes the token from your Mac. You can also revoke Goblin's access at any time from your Google, Dropbox, Box or Microsoft account settings.
Google user data
Goblin's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Goblin uses Google Drive data only to show you how your Drive storage is used and to move items you choose to Drive's trash. No human reads it, and it never leaves your Mac except to go back to Google.
This website
macgoblin.com doesn't use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. Our server keeps standard logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) to run and protect the site, and counts page visits and download clicks in aggregate. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when you visit.
Sharing
We don't sell or share personal information. We'd only disclose the limited server data above if the law requires it.
Children
Goblin isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Your choices
- Don't connect cloud accounts, or disconnect them at any time.
- Turn off "Update automatically" in Goblin's settings, so new versions install only when you choose. Goblin still checks whether one is available.
- Ask us anything about your data at support@higherbarapps.com.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change means Goblin collects something new, we'll say so in the app first.
